I have always struggled with my midsection, and really feel for others that still do. A "spare tire" or "muffin top" is uncomfortable and makes you extremely self conscious (which you could say about any problem area, really). I have put together a list of foods you can eat that will help you towards your goal to a flatter more flatterING midsection! I really can't take credit for this one, because I found the list on the Prevention magazine website, but the article is 11 pages long with each food assigned it's own page. So, in essence, I have done the leg work (or finger work, rather) for you and cut out all the clicking (plus you get to read my quirky comments as a bonus!).
Foods that promote a flat stomach:
- Bananas
- Avocados
- Yogurt
- Berries
- Chocolate skim milk
- Green tea
- Citrus
- Whole grains
Now, you didn't think I was going to give you the good news without breaking the bad, did you?
Foods to avoid on your quest to a flat stomach:
- Salt
- Excess carbs
- Bulky raw foods (Ok, this one I had to comment on. This one makes little sense to me, but the reason this is recommended is because bulky foods take up more space in your GI tract and are harder for your body to digest)
- Gassy foods (the gas will make you bloated)
- Bubble gum (the same "bloating" idea is shared here)
- Sugar alcohols
- Fried foods
- Spicy foods (black pepper, nutmeg, cloves, Chili powder, hot sauces, onions, garlic, mustard, barbecue sauce, horseradish, catsup, tomato sauce, vinegar all cause irritation)
- Carbonated drinks
I tend to agree with #2 the most as of lately. Since I've started drinking
Shakeology in the morning instead of having my usual cold breakfast cereal, I've noticed my stomach getting much, much flatter and I have lost 5 pounds in the last month. Others have noticed it too, so I know it's not all in my head (also, the scale doesn't lie!). Woohoo! With so many inquiring minds, I believe a review of "the healthiest meal of the day" (Shakeology) is in order...stay tuned!
